Work from Home? Work from Here

A Coworking Community: The Benefits

A normal job used to include an office commute five days a week. Now, nearly 80% of professionals work remotely or with a hybrid model, resulting in an increase in employee wellbeing, productivity and a huge rise in professional flexibility.

So, it’s over to you. Do you prefer having access to an office, or just working from wherever? Can’t decide? Turns out, the majority of us simply prefer a mix.

Enter: The Coworking Space.

As of 2023, there are nearly 20,000 of them across the world. That number is set to double over the next year, and we can understand why: These communal spaces offer freelancers, remote workers and independent professionals the best of both worlds, and very few of the negatives.

So what exactly is so good about Coworking Spaces? We’re biased, so we have a lot to say, but we’ve summarised why we love coworking so much into three main areas.

Productivity & Professionalism

To put it simply: we focus better when we are surrounded by other people who are also focusing.

Being alone can be great for zero distractions, but being in an environment where other people are being productive actually increases our ability to focus on (and finish) tasks in a timely manner. It also helps us to build better daily routines for ourselves, then to stick to them.

Our natural creativity and focus can be difficult to maintain if sitting at the same desk for eight hours, so the freedom to take breaks, move to an alternative space or take a call in a breakout area is also vital for keeping us working well throughout the day.

Meeting rooms and professional, bright interiors also mean you can take those client calls without worrying that they’re eyeing up your laundry drying in the background. Small wins.

Community & Collaboration

As some of the most social animals on the planet, even the lesser-spotted introverts among us take value from being a member of a community. Having people to say hello to each morning both boosts mental health and increases a sense of belonging, as well as gifts us a wider network of people to learn from and rely on.

Accessing a network of diverse connections means we get to experience people with different backgrounds, which helps us consider new realities and spark new ideas.

Whether it’s just sharing some beers after work, or attending an organised networking event for new members, coworking brings new connections that can often become valued friends and even future business partners.

Our coworking space in Koh Samui is filled with like-minded, flexible professionals; what better place to connect with people you may end up working with?

Freedom & Flexibility

It’s probably safe to say that remote workers value their freedom and flexibility more than most.

Not just a lifestyle choice, this also improves quality of work: being able to come and go as you please creates space for autonomy, and the freedom to change our routine frequently and without consequence leaves space for more creativity and innovation than those stuck reporting to the same desk at 9am.

Wanting access to a beautiful office shouldn’t have to come at the cost of 1-year lease agreements, utilities bills, a maintenance to do list and remembering to buy coffee and toilet paper.

Just being able to turn up, grab a coffee, and enjoy the aircon while you smash out your work, means you can have the comfort of an office while keeping your life as flexible and stress-free as you like.

We’ve combined all of these favourite things into our co-working space Desk+Chair, in Koh Samui, Thailand.

Coworking in Samui is improving day by day, and we are building a community of digital nomads.
